CROSS BREEDING...

On yesterday, I went out to take care of a few errands. In the process I stumbled upon an sign for an antique sale. When I arrived, I stumbled upon about one large corbel and about six smaller corbels.
Something like this (not the acutal items, but very very close).

Which got me to thinking...

So I went home and looked at this online.
This is the Corbel desk, by Restoration Hardware.

This desk got me thinking about this...
coffee table I purchased from Goodwill...not because I needed it or even intended to use it, but I couldnt bear the thought of it going to a place where it wouldnt recieve proper attention.

and these...

pair of round tables/plant stand from Hobby Lobby a few years back. After the 30% off the manager gave me an additional discount for one being scuffed. He even helped me get them to the car. I felt like a little old lady...lol

AS I RECALLED THESE TWO ITEMS...I RECALLED TWO PROBLEMS IN MY CURRENT APARTMENT

Problem #1...
This space in my living room beside my fireplace measures in around 60 x 24/34 x 37

PROBELM #2...

I have a space between my closet and my bedroom door that measures 60 x 12.5 inches. I was considering a desk for this space. As a place holder I placed one of my bow front dresser in the space.

SO AFTER A FEW MONKEY'S TAILS...
I said, "Self." Self said "Huh?" I replied, "I think I found something."

I took this...
CROSS BRED IT WITH THESE....
WITH SOME INSPIRATION FROM THESE...
AND WAH LA!!!!!
AGAIN
Is it a desk? A console table? Really it could be either. The glass is 3/4 inches thick as with the Resto desk ,and it weighs prolly 70-100 lbs (no lie). So I contemplated if I wanted it as a desk or a console table.

Right now...its a desk in my progressive bedroom...

I like it in the bedroom, because the bed and dressers are so heavy and because its right in the entry way of my bedroom. The glass doesnt take up any visual space and makes it feel open. Plus I needed a workspace.
I think I may keep it in the bedroom (where Im currently blogging from) and perhaps bring it out to the other space if I need an extra surface to serve from during a getogether.

Since its currently in my bedroom as a desk, I will be adding a few items to make it function as a true desk and try to hide the cords.

Im participating in Between the Naps on the Porch for this little item. Drop by Susan's and see some other posts.

INSPIRATION TO COMPLETE THE LOOK...

As much as I love thrifting...it would be useless if I didnt use any of my finds in my home. Prominently displayed. However, it order to do that, I need rooms that are completed. As most of you know my bedroom is in the process of reaching the final stages. Lets recap shall we.

I have the Warner bed by Restoration Hardware, black leather king sized bed, with polished silver nailhead trim.

Ive sourced these dressers (two of them).

AND NOW THE BEDDING.

I have this bedding already, the Hotel Collection "Borderline Nickel" Bedding, from Macy's during the day after Christmas Sale, HUGE discount. Pillows from ZGallerie. Which are now discontinued.
These are duvets/comforters (Im not sure what it is called), the thing that goes across the bed on top of everything, that I found online. I only want the "thingy" not the pillows persay.

As you can tell, my style is more contemporary with a slight hint of tradtional. Transitional they say. It shows why all three are extremly similiar. Althought the first and third one looks the same, the three is described as being black and ivory. Whichever I get I will get the king or cali king.

What are your thoughts?

BEDROOM UPDATE...

Here is a sneak peak of a bedroom element and a few additional assessories Ive sourced along the way.

This great looking horse comes from Black Lion. I dont like the price. $200. If I can get to the seller, I will try to bargain with him.

HomeGoods sofa. I like it. Colors are great. I think it could work in my space, but I prefer something solid. But I may go back. $600 I remember when HomeGoods was teeming with these busts a few years back. All of a sudden they dis da peared. Well I came across one on my recent visit. I bought it. Yes. I have a design file full of busts.

MARTHA STEWART in GOODWILL...

Well not exactly, but there was a can of paint from in GOODWILL from her line. Not exactly sure of the color. It appeared to be a sea foam green.

Two owl bookends...made in Israel

Acrylic salt and pepper shakers (yes...they went home with me)

However, I have just as many pieces of clothing that have come from Goodwill and thrift shops as well. I wont spend much time as I will feature many items in a men's fashion forward blog.

BUT

Here are a few pieces I thought were worth showing.

I thought these rain boots were awesome. Maybe its just me

Mr. Goodwill Hunting.

WILD WILD WEEKEND....

Well no so much wild...but I thought the title was so fitting.

This weekend I decided to venture out and visit some of my favorite online/catalog stores. Charlotte is great in that most of the great stores are within 30 minutes of each other. So my day started at West Elm...moved on to Zgallerie....Pottery Barn 1 and 2...Restoration Hardware and rounded it off at Crate and Barrel. I made a few interesting "bargain tips" on the journey

STORE 1: WEST ELM
Had a great conversation with Rachel in West Elm. We discussed the importance of supporting your local retailers. I told her I order a number of products offline and she told me to stop. And as beautiful as she was...I kinda listened. However, I understood what she was conveying. If you continue ordering online, the local stores will close their doors. When this happens revenue departs, but the personal shopping experience, where you have the ability the touch and feel and smell and see will be no more. I will be visiting West Elm (and other stores) more frequently when needed...and you should too.

STORE 2: Z GALLERIE
Let me start by saying Zgallerie's items look great online...but a little subpar in the store.

My biggest discovery was realizing that the items in Zgallerie can be found elsewhere. The exact items...read on.

This horse, priced at $80 is found at this warehouse homefurnishings store near me. I believe this same horse is priced at either $39 or $59. The very same item...but at a cheaper cost. These are from the warehouse home furnishings store as well.re. I was going to save these to post with the other photos as I was going to do a post on the warehouse store...but I was surprised that these pieces werent exclusive to Zgallerie. These decorative pieces and pieces in the same stlye are also in the warehouse. In fact they come in gold, silver and I think blue. Reasonably priced.

STORE 3: Restoration Hardware
Athough the catalog and the website has beautiful images, the store delivered very little. Very sparce. They seemed to have spent a great deal of time with a lighting plan...but it didnt work. I didnt see any of the graphic letter images or crendezas or entertainment centers. Just a few beds. The Warner Bed. In Linen. Ahem...I have a black leather one...with nickle nailhead trim.

STORE 6: POTTERY BARN

Not going to spend a lot of time on Pottery Barn as most bloggers saturate the web with this store's images. However there are two items to point out.
These pillows with...
these clearence hand towels from Target...perfecct match

These apothcary jars from Pottery Barn are nice. I went to two different Pottery Barns. The first store had these. The second store did not. Very nice designs. I saw these very jars used in a bathroom done by Candice Olson, host of Divine Design on HGTV and the W network. Its really refreshing to see an interior design industry icon use accessories from stores and sources that are not all to-the-trade.
I, along with so many others, believe that Candice Olson is one of the most high recognizable interior designers. As aforementioned if you look at her designs and refer to the sources page, you will realize that a number of her pieces come from stores that many people can access, such as the apothecary jars. I have seen items from West Elm and even Mitchell Gold and Bob Williams.

Although a friend of mine calls her the "clutter queen", I think wathching her episodes give you a hint of what you can purchase or do in your own homes.
Incidentally, I am told most of the accessories dont stay with the homeowner. Most are used to stage the reveal segment. Many of the pieces are offered to the homeowner at a discounted prices if they decide they would like to keep them. But a number of them are simply staged.
STORE 6: CRATE AND BARREL

So, after visiting all these stores what did I buy? Must have been bags and bags and bags of stuff...actually just two little items...

Stay tuned.
